Following the approval of the first Regional Spatial Strategy in 2005, the Government ordered that it should be reviewed by the East Midlands Regional Assembly (as the Regional Planning Body) to bring it into line with new legislation.
The revised draft East Midlands Regional Plan was published for public consultation on 28 September 2006. This and related documents can be found in this section of this website.
A Public Examination into the revised draft East Midlands Regional Plan took place from 22 May to 19 July 2007 in Leicester and Lincoln. Further information on the Public Examination can be seen on the Planning Inspectorate website. Please see the Panel Report published 28 November 2007.
On 22 July 2008, the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government published Proposed Changes to the East Midlands Regional Plan (Regional Spatial Strategy) for public consultation. The consultation closed on 17 October 2008.
The approved East Midlands Regional Plan was issued by the Secretary of State on 12 March 2009 (see Regional Spatial Strategy 2009 page for details).
Meanwhile, the Assembly commenced a further Partial Review on key transportation, climate change, and other related issues on 17th October 2008 and this is due to be completed (under the new single integrated Regional Strategy procedures) by Autumn 2011 (see RSS Partial Review 2008-2011 page).
